illustration friday - sacrifice


Two pictures from the O. Henry story "The Gift of the Magi". (The one where the girl cuts her hair to get her husband a watch chain, and he sells his watch to get her hair combs. Oh cruel irony!)

Looks a tiny bit like the illustration style of those Penny Dreadful stories from around the same time as O. Henry -- only nicer.
